Right Outta My Mouth

Got home this afternoon after attending a CrossFit Nutrition Certification at CrossFit 4800 in Bozeman.  Great information presented by Robb Wolf.  Robb's a very intelligent and witty man...it was an honor to have sat amongst the other CrossFitters and hear his approach to nutrition.

Also, a big shout out to Paul and Kristen from Gallatin CrossFit...great people and gracious hosts!

More to come during the WOD's and some upcoming get-togethers, but let me give you some of the pertinent take-aways...
  • Bad diet will undermine ANY activity level.
  • Your nutritional needs should be driven by "how you look, how you feel and how you perform" and tracking of health biomarkers.
  • Insulin is the master hormone and your body's insulin response to food is what you should be thinking everytime you get hungry and think about eating.
  • Glucagon will save your life.
  • You are gluten intolerant and it's killing you.
  • Food quality first...then be concerned about volume.
  • Your intake levels should support survival and performance, not body fat.
  • Glycemic index and glycemic load are values worth the time and effort to study.
  • Meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.
  • Meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.

  • Meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.
  • Meats and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.
    • (yes, it's worth repeating over and over...)
So, Robb's lecture provided me with the information I needed to really focus on my nutrition.  I've been fortunate to not have ever struggled with my nutrition or detrimental effects on my body composition, health or performance.  But that's not to say that I can't improve.  Much like it's said about the snatch...you can never master it, but you can always improve.

I really enjoyed the science behind Robb's statements.  I must admit to agreeing with him politically as well.  I knew I could eat better, and the science now justifies how I thought and felt about nutrition.  The politics, marketing tactics and special interests driving our food industry will continue to contribute to obesity and autoimmune diseases unless we all take action...starting with our own nutrition.  Bottom line is that I've actually been eating fairly well...now I just need to keep the dairy and sugar from entering my pie-hole!

Speaking of taking it right out of my mouth, here's a post from CrossFit Asheville.  I post it here because I've been working on a short piece about Mechanics, Consistency and Intensity.  Couldn't have said it better myself.
