Ear Mountain Hike This Saturday

The weather looks great for the hike to the top of Ear Mountain this Saturday, September 11th.

If you are planning to participate in this event, please sign up at the gym.

Please be prepared for an all-day hike...getting to the top of the mountain is no joke...it is uphill from the time you leave the trailhead, and there are portions of the hike that are very rocky and steep.  Do not be dissuaded by the difficulty of the trek...this is the type of situation that we train for!  No one will be left behind...we will complete this journey together.  Although there may be some in the group that go faster, let's stay together in pairs as a minimum.  Eight to ten hours round trip is expected if you take your time on the trail and spend time looking around on top of the mountain.

The following list is what you should consider when deciding what to put in your pack:
  • Water (two quarts minimum)
  • Food (two meals with appropriate quantities of carbohydrates, proteins and fats)
  • Protection (layered clothing, sunscreen, bear spray, etc.)
  • First aid (basic kit with an extra dosage of any prescription meds you require regularly)
Rock trundling (rolling large rocks or boulders down cliffs and steep hillsides) will not be tolerated.  It is a serious safety concern and has negative impact on the environment.  Read this story to find out why it's a bad idea.

If you would like to carpool to the trailhead, please meet in the parking lot behind Main Street Express at 7:30am.  (Yes!  There is a 6am WOD on Saturday morning.  9am and 6pm are canceled.)

This will be a fun trek as summer comes to a close!  Please plan to participate...many people live their entire lives in the shadow of Ear Mountain and never even try to make it to the top!
