It Doesn't Have to Suck...

But it will if you think it will.

Monday's workout was tough, no doubt about it.  But I think a reason I saw most people struggle with it is because they didn't like the fact that I prescribed the hardest way possible to do the movements.  In their heads, the workout was hard because every movement was hard.

Dead hang pull-ups?  But, I can get my chin over the bar if I kip!  Too bad.  Dead hangs are better.  Even if your buddy has to help you.

Hand release push-ups?  With hips off the ground?  On the toes?  But I can do lots more if I'm on my knees!  Yeah, true...and doing more of anything the easy way is just one way to ensure you are weaker longer.  Your choice.

Resting position of the squat is at full depth?  With a strong, stable position?  But it's painful to hold that position.  Huh.  I bet it's painful to have bed sores because you didn't train your posterior chain and now you can't even get out of bed on your own.  Pick any nursing home on the planet and you'll find decrepitude simply because our culture doesn't put value on a lifelong regimen of strengthening and conditioning in functional movements.

Next time, don't think of how hard the workout's gonna be...think about how hard YOU are gonna be if you keep a good attitude and approach the workout like you are getting paid to do it.  But you only receive payment for every rep done right, and with more difficult the movements, you earn a higher wage.
