In the excitement of a day off from work, filled with friends and family, barbecues, cold drinks and the beginning of summer, we tend to forget how to show respect to our fellow citizens who have died while serving in the military.
Here's what you can do:
- It is customary is to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff from dawn until noon local time. When posting the colors in the morning, raise the flag to full staff, then lower solemnly to half-staff. At noon, raise the flag briskly to full staff.
- A national moment of remembrance takes place at 3 p.m. local time. Pause and reflect what freedoms we enjoy and what you are willing to do to protect them.
