Session Dissection
A few words from Frank:
Where did the word "workout" come from anyway? Puzzling to me. What does "workout" mean? For that matter, what about "makeout? Crap...now I got distracted. OK...back to "workout".
According to dictionary.com, "workout" is the "noun use of verb phrase 'work out'". So there you have it. If you are going to "work out", you are going to a "workout". Huh. Still confusing. "Work out" is apparently different than "work in", but "workouts" are sometimes in, and even in and out. Doesn't make much sense, but "workout" is part of our accepted vernacular, so we just roll with it.
However, I prefer to train, not workout. My "workout of the day" or "WOD" (how CrossFit-ish / cult-ish) is usually referred to as a "session". Training session...training...workout...WOD...whatever. I'm getting to the point. Here it is: whatever it is you do for "fitness" should have a purpose. And "training" is more descriptive than "workout".
Bottom line: go "get your sweat on" at some other place that purports to provide "fitness" training. If you have a goal and want to accomplish it, come train at the garage.
As for "session dissection", I'll start working on an anatomy lesson of sorts...the structure of what goes on and, probably more importantly, why it goes on during a "session". Maybe I'll post it in parts so you don't get bored reading it. For now, have a look at what Josh does, and why.
In sufferance,
Frank
