Chompin' at the Bit

Apparently, when a horse is impatient, it tends to chew on its bit.

WHOA!

I'm not referring to YOU as a HORSE!  Although it is a compliment to some, others might think that being compared to a horse is a reference to being an unattractive "size".  Well, many of you farm and ranch folk know that horses can be very impressive animals, and I agree.  I'm impressed by Clydesdale-type breeds...strong, hardy, massive.  The kind of animal that can kick some ass.  Would you rather be skinny and weak or stout and able to kick serious ass?   Ass-kickers read on and look forward to the next deadlift session.  All others go away...the next spinning class needs an instructor.

You've been chomping at the bit for a challenge, so I give to you the "Kick Ass" Challenges.

Here, in no particular order are the things I challenge you to do:
  • Kick Gas...choose sufferance.
  • Diabetes awareness...education never ends.
  • Water...why not?
  • No bread.  Even if Jesus ate it.
Now let me say this right up front, and I bet this pisses you off.  You're gonna fail at these challenges.  What?!?!  Why?!?!  How can you be so sure and pessimistic?  Well, think back to the "Spring Leaning Challenge".  Remember that?  How many of you actually completed all those steps?  Measuring, reading, eliminating, researching, studying...commitment!  It was a difficult challenge.  Lots of stuff that you shouldn't be required to do just to "lose a few pounds".  If you are interested in "losing a few pounds", there's lots of options rather than the difficult challenges thrown at you by the ONDEG trainers.  Go for the HCG or Ideal Protein diets as your preferred method of a leaner body.  Go for latin booty shake, shake weight or shakin-in-your-boots-you're-afraid-to-suffer activity.  But don't bring that crap to our gym.  We want people who are interested in strength and stamina.  Those are the only two things we are interested in, because everything comes along with the pursuit of those two.  So forget about the fluff that goes along with "weight loss".  Shut up already about anything outside the realm of getting stronger and having more stamina.  Being lean comes from being stronger, longer.  Period.

Why am I so adamant about studying the scientific facts, applying the proven concepts and implementing cutting-edge strategies of fueling, strength, stamina and sufferance?  Because they work!  DAMMIT!  Go ahead and do it your own way or the way some "expert" tells you to.  If you wanna get lean, gain strength, and have more stamina, then do what works!  Or focus on one thing like "losing weight", which is just a "PC" way of saying not be so fat.  But your deadlift won't get better if you are eating 500 calories a day by downing some "shake" that someone tells you drink.  Or focus on "sculpting/toning/firming" which are just BS that Shape magazine tries to tell you are substitutes for simply being strong.

The only people I've ever seen have lasting results in the combined areas of lean body composition, high strength to weight ratio and having an "engine" that carries them through the times when the "suck meter" is pegged are the people who STUDY, THINK, ASK and APPLY.  You can beat yourself up as much as you'd like in "really tough workouts", but until you really understand what is going on with your blood sugar levels, the finer points of a low-bar back squat and why a two minute Rx'd "Fran" time is freaking awesome, you might always be fat, weak and not able to dig deep for life-saving power generation when it really matters.

Kick Gas

The first way you are going to kick ass is to kick gas.  No more driving.  Need a carton of milk before dinner?  Only have a few minutes to get to the store before it closes?  Well, I guess you understand the urgency and need to kick ass by kicking gas and by forgetting the car and getting your ass on the road in a hurry.  Kinda like the 3-2-1-GO you hear before that 5RFT suckfest of burpees and deadlifts.  Get it done!  Forget about using the car to make your life easier.  Choose sufferance.  Embarrassed by wheezing through purple lips as you race to the dairy case to grab the milk?  Facing people who don't understand your pain is sufferance as well, and it makes you feel good.  Believe me, it feels good to trot through the parking lot while you watch the weak fatties get in their cars and drive their lazy asses home.  Smile as you guess what they are saying to themselves about you being "crazy".  Revel in your insanity!  And kick some gas!  Or don't.  I don't care.

Diabetes Awareness

There's really not much to be said about this subject other than you don't know jack about diabetes.  Learn about what diabetes is and in particular, the blood sugar connection to auto-immune diseases.  November is Diabetes Awareness Month so this is a good way to get involved, get educated and get healthy.  If there's one thing that's not being taught to the children, it's the proper decision-making in food choices.  Taste, temperature, texture, totality and nutritional value.  Which one is the last factor in deciding what to eat?  Which should be the first?  Learn...your life depends on it.  Or don't.  I don't care.

Water

Why not?  You know you can drink more water, but you don't.  Skip the Diet Coke.  You aren't going to "dilute all those water-soluble vitamins" by drinking more water and consequently urinating more.  You'll just have to get your ass up outta that chair and walk to the bathroom more.  Probably a good thing, regardless.  Go ahead and do it now.  I'll wait.  Or don't.  I don't care.

No Bread

Bread is not bread.  Bread to me is anything high on the glycemic scale or even better, anything with a high "glycemic load".  Those two subjects, glycemic scale and load, are difficult concepts if you are not willing to study them and apply them to your fueling policies.  Funny phrase, huh?  "Fueling policies".  Think of "policies" as THE LAW in your life.  Things you don't compromise on.  Make the decision now.  Learn about glycemic scale and load.  Write them into your policies.  Follow the policies.  Or don't.  I don't care.

So, are you pissed?  Wanna fail?  AGAIN?  Do it.  Or don't.  I want the best for you.  It's what I do, and it's what the other ONDEG coaches do.  We strategize multiple times a week in order to make your training experience the best it can be.  But, if you don't care, I don't care.  I can't care any more about your success than you do.  So show me you care...let's work together to make you lean, strong and enduring.
